The commemoration of International Fistula Day, which takes place annually on May 23rd, was organized by the Galkacyo Medical Foundation (GMF) in collaboration with Global Science University (GSU) and Galkacyo Medical Center (GMC), who are partners in this effort.

The event was attended by various members of the community. Dr. Abdulqadir Mohamoud Jama (Dhagacade) and Dr. Faadumo Mahmoud gave awareness-raising speeches about the devastating effects of obstetric fistula on women. Participants were also encouraged to bring any woman suspected of having obstetric fistula to the GMC Dhagacade hospital for free treatment and surgery.

This free treatment and surgical service, jointly provided by GMC Hospital and GMF, is funded by the international organization dedicated to ending obstetric fistula – the Fistula Foundation.
