President’s Message
Since its establishment in 2014, Global Science University (GSU) has been instrumental in addressing the increasing demand for higher education in Somalia. As GSU is committed to delivering high-quality education, we are dedicated to empowering the next generation of Somali leaders. Our faculty and academic units are driven by the shared mission of equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to shape a brighter future, thereby contributing meaningfully to the nation’s development and prosperity.
Having said that, I believe, together we can all fulfill the Vision and Mission of GSU, as we implement our programs and perform well in our endeavors. Global Science University has gained the trust and confidence of our community, as we promised that our graduates students will have the quality of education they have learned in our university. In our compound, we have the opportunities that everybody could get, we have a university teaching hospital in our GSU compound, Galkacyo Medical Center (GMC) with well-equipped laboratories and other teaching equipment. We thank the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher education, All GSU board of directors, and Administration and Deans of Faculties for their efforts to transform and improve the quality of our programs in order to produce professional health officers, highly qualified medical doctors, IT Professionals and Social Science Expertise.
We take great pride in the remarkable progress our team has achieved in a relatively short period. In response to the needs of the local community, we have successfully launched a diverse range of undergraduate programs. These include Medicine (MBBS) and Health Sciences (Midwifery, Laboratory Science, Nutrition, Clinical Officer, Nursing), Diploma in Pharmacy, Computer Science and Information Technology, Business Administration, Finance and Economics, and Human Resources Management. Each program is thoughtfully designed to equip our students with the knowledge and skills essential for success in today’s rapidly evolving world.
Furthermore, the dedication and perseverance of our staff have resulted in significant accomplishments, including the successful awarding of master’s degrees through our partnership with International Telematic Uninnettuno (Italy), our current partnership with Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia) and Busitema University (Uganda) and Mpale Hospital (Uganda). Global Science University is a proud member of the Association of African Universities (AAU) and the Association of Puntland Universities (APU), Association of Somali Universities and it holds the distinction of being the one of the highly ranked universities in Somalia.
The University has transformed its infrastructure with a strong focus on modern educational technologies, state-of-the-art computer laboratories and significant upgrades to the university library, which now offers more than 15,000 books and more than 20,000 e-books across diverse academic disciplines. The establishment of a new campus reflects our commitment to educational advancement and is expected to play a major role in shaping our academic activities by 2030.

Dr. Abdulcadir Mohamud Giama is a dedicated Medical Doctor, Gynecologist and Obstetric Specialist and Consultant with more than 40 years’ experience, including surgery for obstetric and gynecological emergencies and complications. Trained in medicine and practiced medicine in Italy for over two decades. Over 20 years’ experience in humanitarian healthcare in conflict conditions in Somalia providing frontline healthcare, including war trauma surgery, founding and managing of GMC hospital.

- In 1995, Founded the humanitarian Organization of “C.O.MS.E.D” (Cooperation of Medical Services and Development) As President of “C.O.M.S.E.D.” conducted since its Foundation campaign for the building of a hospital in Galkayo (North-East of Somalia)
- In 1997 succeeded in establishing a “poliambulatorio” (mobile clinic) and outpatient Department offering services for Ophthalmology, gynecology, pediatrics
- From 1991-2008, employed as coordinator and consultant in all outpatient of Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinics, and Antenatal Clinic of Crotone
- From 1991 -2011 Consultant in Gynecology and Obstetrics and Surgery in Various voluntary Humanitarian Activities in Africa specially in Somalia, where I was the health director, obstetrics, gynecology and general surgery senior consultant of GMC
- In 1997, Creation of Galkayo Medical Center (GMC) referral hospital for war affected population in Galkayo, Puntland State, Somalia
- In 2001, President of Board of Directors of NGO the Galkayo Medical Foundation (GMF), founded to run the GMC referral hospital and other medical facilities
- Joined the other humanitarian agencies in the region, helping and providing basic health care to the IDP camps with referral services to Galkayo Medical
- Since the establishment, treated Obstetric Fistula and many FGM related complications being Galkayo Medical Center (GMC), one of the biggest referral hospitals for Obstetric Fistula and FGM related complications for whole
- From 2007 up to now working for ending obstetric fistula campaign with the collaboration of UNFPA, including funding for surgical treatment of patients

Contributions to Science
- First Doctor to establish fistula referral center in Somalia and began providing free fistula services with no or minimal outside support
- Operated thousands of major gynecological surgeries, including vaginal, abdominal and neoplastic diseases for 40 years in different countries (mainly Italy and Somalia).
- Screened carcinoma of the Cervix with pap smear around 18 thousand patients
- Operated hundreds of breast carcinoma
- Repaired thousands of Fistula cases for more than 35
- Conducted studies in high-risk pregnancy for more than 45
- Operated thousands of General surgeries for more than 25
- Consulted thousands of gynecological patients for more than 45
- Operated thousands of emergencies obstetric and neonatal
- Managed GMF to ensure general humanitarian response activities including delivery of emergency resources from UNHCR
